After surviving 15 years of layoffs, downsizing and re-engineering in corporate healthcare finance, Lois' luck (and patience) finally ran out. She decided to become her own boss and follow my passion for jewelry in direct sales. After winning Career Sales and Career Recruiter awards years of her customers telling her to do her own thing, she started Silvergirl Sterling to showcase my favorite designs from around the world.

COVID, Caregiving and Beyond
2020 presented some new challenges for our business. Soon after finishing some major wholesale shows in Surf Expo in Florida and Atlanta Market, COVID hit our customers and all of our orders cancelled. Silver prices in February 2020 were $16.67 per once. This of course is what drives our pricing and costs to do business. After COVID, silver prices took off, rising as high as $93.78 and as of September 2026 settling at about $64.00 per ounce. We strive to keep our prices very fair and competative based on the market and silver prices and continue to hope prices will head back toward where they were.
Also in 2020, it became clear that Lois' elderly mom would require more assistance in order to stay in her home and out of nursing care in Western Maryland. Lois and her husband Roland sold their home in central Maryland and moved up to Deep Creek Lake to become live-in caregivers. They were able to keep her mom going to the age of 93 1/2 in February of 2026.
Now Lois is stepping back into Bonita Beach Jewelry and Silvergirl Sterling. After they navigate the estate process they plan to make a move south towards sunny beaches!
